Global Warming and Water Shortage
Droughts and Climate Change
Climate change has caused the environment to become very dry and arid. Our major bodies of water have become of limited use. Only a few species have adapted to living without ample amounts of water and humans are not one. Most of earth's organisms need a sufficient supply of water in order to live a long prosperous life. Southern California's mass human population will not be able to securely withstand a severe drought.
Climate change (global warming) has played a key role in causing water shortages to become such a prominent issue in Southern California. Water sources such as the Colorado river and the Sierra-Nevada Mountains ,which account for approximately 80% of our water, are constantly being threatened by the climate change. These conditions cause our rivers and lakes to dry up preventing them from flowing into the sea and causing our snow packs to melt, damaging our water supply.

The map above, to the right shows 2050 predictions of the severity of water shortages in California. Map 1 shows water shortage severity if climate change proceeds to occur and Map 2 shows water shortage severity without climate change. As you can see Southern California will be affected with or without climate change but climate change will definitely escalate the severity.
